Training and Nutrition

God has blessed the King with natural musculature, with thick joints, broad shoulders and a wide hip structure – perfectly built for hoisting heavy weights. Strength athletics (more colloquially known as “Strongman”) was something Keith Wong was born to do. The King has always been naturally stronger and bigger than others.

Right from a very young age, as a mini-Monarch, Keith Wong was already accustomed to picking up odd objects like rice sacks, furniture, buckets of water, etc and moving with them – not because he had to (Kings don’t really “have to” do anything), but simply because he liked showing off his strength.

The first time Yours Truly walked into a gym, I was 16 years old and weighing 80kg – I squat 80kg for 20 reps. Soon enough, I was out-lifting everyone in my gym at that time, including the so-called personal trainers.

Keith Wong just naturally lifted more weight than anyone else around; naturally being the operative word – Keith Wong is not, never has been, and never will be, taking anabolic steroids.

Now, The King trains with Team Iron Behemoths, located in the heart of Singapore at Hong Lim Park. And that’s not just some shameless plug, that’s the truth. To be the best, you can’t train with a bunch of drugged-up jobbers in a rubbish dump with sub-par equipment – you’ve got to train with the absolute best!

The King currently weighs-in at a magnificently muscular 118kg, and trains 3 times a week (given that Strongman really brutalises your nervous system – and the fact that The King is drug-free – 3 times a week is sufficient) with each session lasting 3 to 4 hours. Each training session starts off with one or two strongman events, followed by a few assistance lifts in the gym, ending off with some core work and cardio (mainly sprinting).

Lifting more weight than just about anyone in Singapore - no drugs, just God-given talent!

As a drug-free athlete, picking up a couple hundred kilos worth of odd-shaped objects and moving fast with it on a regular basis takes it’s toll on the body. To be able to do that, The King eats 5 to 6 meals a day, totaling about 7000 calories everyday - lots of protein from beef steaks, eggs, chicken and various fish, and lots of carbohydrates from rice, potatoes, bread and pasta. Of course, plenty of fruits and vegetables are also essential to help digest all that food. The King also consumes massive amounts of supplements such as protein shakes, creatine, glutamine, BCAAs, fish oils, glucosamine, and multi-vitamins.

Finally, training hard and eating and supplementing well is complemented by daily contrast baths, self-myofascial release, and weekly massages.
